If the cartridge in the faucet is also bad it may be difficult to determine whether it’s the hot shut off valve or the cold or both that needs to be replaced.
If the faucet was good, you could try turning it to hot or cold while open (if a single handle type) and observing whether the leak stops or gets worse on either hot or cold side. It could be the valve stem cartridges seeping (barely leaking, more like tears welling up in an eye) up out the top underneath the handle escutcheon and then streaming down the faucet body past that gasket and down the indicated hole. A photo of the top of the fixture would help. The middle is just where your lift rod for the drain come down.
Likely water is leaking from the hot or cold side towards the middle. Without even looking at the faucet fixture, unless it is pretty high end, i would probably just replace. It is an easy diy project. The cartridge itself isn’t really meant to come apart.
If it was easy to pop the back off (with the 3 holes) then that may be why it was leaking.
Or the rubber gaskets on the outside that press against the metal of the faucet are failing and letting water out that way. Probably easiest to just get a replacement. It has nothing to do with the faucet and everything to do with those shutoff valves. Those types of valves are notorious for leaking due to 1) never being used, the packing gets stiff and 2) getting over tightened and malfunctioning.
But you don't ever apply plumbers putty to anything besides the sink to basket to connection, and lots of plumbers these days are just using caulk. When a sink has a overflow drain it drains into the drain body via the holes drilled into it. So even if the basket leaks you won't get water leaking out of the sink, the sink just won't hold water. I bought a $1000+ delta faucet for a stand alone tub filler.
He replaced it and it is leaking again after a few months.
You may consider an entirely new system because on some of these deltas, a cartridge is not going to fix it. Ordered a part to plug the hole that looked better than some tape. It's probably the same faucet but might have a plug for the hole that matches the finish on the faucet. In my case it was moen pn:10116.
They actually sent them to me for free when i asked. I bought a moen faucet and drain, but the drain keeps leaking at the gasket right beneath the sink bowl. Here's is a picture of it seperated from the sink bowl opening. I followed the instructions exactly as it says and i take the mounting nut up as tight as it will go by hand.
So this bad boy is leaking.
It's over 20 years old, and all i know is the brand is glacier bay. I want to replace the cartridges but i have no idea how to disassemble it to expose the cartridge, or which cartridge to get.
